The DHF Story
HISTORY OF DHF
Problem Solving for Better Health® (PSBH) was launched by the Dreyfus Health Foundation in 1989 to improve global health. The PSBH® process is based on the belief that many solutions to health problems can be found locally, using existing resources. PSBH participants are expected to take personal action and become part of the solution to “health” problems in the community. Individuals and communities, hospitals, physicians, other health care workers, teachers, academic institutions, business leaders, government officials, and many others have been transformed by this process and implemented more than 15,000 projects to date. The program is active in more than 32 countries including the United States and is self-sustaining and self-replicating. See the DHF website for further information: www.dhfglobal.org
DHF leaders realized that unleashing the potential of nurses was vital in order to achieve the Foundation’s mission of better health for more people worldwide. A parallel program to PSBH™; Problem Solving for Better Health Nursing™ (PSBHN) was launched in 2002 and is now active in 15 countries; including the United States. PSBHN™ aims to develop nurses as leaders in their immediate work environments as well as their home communities to achieve nursing and health care goals for targeted populations. The program has been piloted to test its efficacy in a broad cross-section of nurses and nursing students. See the DHF website for further information: http://www.dhfglobal.org/who/psbhn.html
