DeltaDirections.org is a public service website dedicated to promoting health and economic renewal in the lower Mississippi River Delta region.
WHAT IS THE MISSION OF THE DELTA DIRECTIONS CONSORTIUM?
We feel that the potential of the Mississippi Delta is so multifaceted and complex that its growth requires the interdisciplinary contribution of various professions, disciplines, and institutions. The Delta Directions Consortium exists at the intersection of research and practice, providing a united front for creating joint proposals intended to implement innovative approaches and capitalize on human potential. The Consortium seeks to create a paradigm shift in the Delta through the institution of sustainable and transformational change which focuses on building knowledge and implementing practices that improve the health and wealth of the region.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE SITE?
DeltaDirections.org seeks to:
- Offer a window into the history, culture, and human spirit of this unique region
- Provide a vehicle in which information about current research projects and initiatives related to the region's health and economic issues can be shared among the academic, public service, business, and government sectors
- Raise awareness of existing local and regional needs, as well as available research, community programs, and resources
- Identify new partners who are able to contribute to regeneration efforts through research, grass roots initiatives and resource generation
WHO STARTED THE SITE?
DeltaDirections.org was initiated by a Consortium of academic institutions interested in Delta-related issues, the Dreyfus Health Foundation (DHF), and the Winokur Family Foundation.
WHO CONTRIBUTES THE INFORMATION?
DeltaDirections.org provides a compilation of links to various regional resources, organizations working within the area, news outlets, tourism and economic development agencies, etc.
In addition, several partners, including the Consortium's academic member organizations and DHF, have been identified to contribute information about specific research projects and programs that are currently underway or proposed for the region.
