Delta Culture

THE BLUES
REGIONAL CUISINE
NOTABLE NATIVES

Flat land planted in rows as far as the eye can see, the faint buzz of mosquitoes, the haunting rhythm of a blues lyric, the smell of southern-fried chicken or catfish, the sticky sweetness of humid nights, the slow drawl of conversations
all are images of the Mississippi River Delta that have remained for two centuries. The Delta has left its mark on the rest of the country in its influence on the evolution of American music and its many notable natives including actors, writers and musicians. Rich in history, but stretching to seal the cracks of changing times, this region continues to be a cultural magnet.

"Much of what is profoundly American — what people love about America — has come from the delta, which is often called 'the cradle of American culture.'"
