Description
N.S.T.A.R. is "nursing students tracking and retention program." This is an annual project begun in 2007 with the incoming freshman and LPN Fast Track students at Coahoma Community College in Cleveland, MS. We have revised the program to include an additional “battalion” to address the sophomore students who have come “through the ranks” so to speak by completing their freshman year. We call our new student orientation “CAMP COAHOMA” and have developed the orientation around a military theme in which the students are “inducted” into the nursing corps and complete a commitment pledge while their family member who will assume their familial duties while they are “deployed on assignment” in the nursing program completes a power of attorney form.

Nursing Corps Battalions:
“Carnegie” Traditional Track – Sophomore “Mahoney” Fast Track – Sophomore
“Nightingale” Traditional Track - Freshmen

In addition, We have developed a name for the graduating class from 2008 and will use it for graduating classes in the future. They are no longer recruits but have been promoted to the SPECIAL OPS TEAM: THE C-TEAM:

C-Coahoma Nurses
T -Trained to serve
E -Eager to engage
A -Aware of Operation Objectives
M –Motivated to achieve success
