Delta Rural Poll, a Report on Smoking Bans

Description
The Delta Rural Poll is a biennial survey of eleven counties in northwestern Mississippi, conducted by telephone. The survey covers various topics, including quality of life, health care, employment and social capital, and is used by researchers at Delta State University to prepare policy reports, to inform community development projects in the region, and to teach social science courses.

Objectives
1) Collect periodic data on social and demographic characteristics of Mississippi Delta residents, for use by researchers, policymakers, local communities, and others; (2) Strengthen ties between Delta State University and communities in the Mississippi Delta; (3) Provide Delta State University students and Delta residents with opportunities to learn about research techniques through experience; (4) Collaborate with other universities and researchers carrying out similar projects to develop a broad, comparable data-base on social and demographic characteristics of rural dwellers.
